Step by step
How long does a QR code remain valid?
A QR image has no built-in countdown. What matters is its payload: contact details, a website address or a dynamic redirect. The image can still scan correctly even when its information is outdated or its destination has disappeared.
Updated:
qr.example.com
Illustrative address: qr.example.com/r/summer. The printed address stays the same when its destination changes; this example domain is not connected.
Separate the image from its destination
A static vCard or Wi-Fi code needs no QRinio server to decode its data. A static website code still needs a working destination website. If its domain expires or the Wi-Fi password changes, the old data remain in the image. Deleting a QRinio account does not modify static images already exported.
What dynamic codes depend on
A dynamic QRinio code needs the service, a working domain and an available saved resource. An expiry date, archiving, trash or an account suspension can prevent access. The monthly limit on detailed statistics does not stop existing redirects. This does not amount to a promise of unlimited availability.
For long-lived print materials, keep a record of the placement, QR address and person responsible. Check codes regularly and before reprinting. With a custom domain, maintain its renewal, DNS and certificate. Changing the default domain does not rewrite the hostname in an existing print.
How it works
- 01
Scan the actual print and inspect its address or directly embedded information.
- 02
For a dynamic code, open the existing resource and check its status, expiry date and destination.
- 03
Fix the existing resource or domain, then test again before ordering replacement prints.
What to keep in mind
If the camera recognises the code but a browser error appears, decoding already works. Exporting another image containing the same unavailable address will not fix the destination.
Frequently asked questions
- Does downloading the image again extend its lifetime?
- No. Downloading creates an image file. It does not renew a domain, extend an expiry date or restore deleted content.
- Can I move another provider’s printed code to QRinio?
- The printed image keeps its address. Unless you control that address, you cannot replace its redirect provider without printing a new code.

Static or dynamic QR codes: which fits?
Compare direct encoded content with editable redirects. Choose based on updates, offline use and responsibility for the link.
Change a QR code destination after printing
Update a saved dynamic resource, preserve its redirect address and test the same printed code after the change.
