Step by step
Static or dynamic QR codes: which fits?
Static describes content encoded directly in the QR image. Dynamic describes a QR image containing a redirect address whose destination can change. The pixels in both images stay fixed. The difference is what happens after the encoded address or data is read.

Compare the main differences
Choose according to the content and the maintenance it will need. Both options produce a fixed image.
| Feature | Static | Dynamic with QRinio |
|---|---|---|
| Data in the image | Direct data or destination address | Fixed redirect address |
| Later changes | Content at a web address you control | Edit the destination in the existing record |
| Internet | Depends on the content | Required for the redirect |
| QRinio statistics | None for direct static content | Requests to the redirect |
| Account | Not needed for local creation | Verified account required |
Who keeps the address working?
For material intended to last years, decide who maintains the account, domain and destination. Your own domain helps you control the hostname, but changing it does not rewrite existing codes. Direct contact or Wi-Fi data avoids that redirect, while every change to the encoded data requires a new print.
How it works
- 01
Choose static for fixed data or a stable address you already control.
- 02
Choose dynamic when you need account-based target changes, schedules or channel statistics.
- 03
For dynamic codes, plan to keep the resource, redirect domain and target available.
What to keep in mind
Static vCards and Wi-Fi credentials can be read without a web redirect, though the resulting action may need device support. Dynamic website destinations need an internet connection and an available redirect service.
Frequently asked questions
- Does dynamic mean unlimited lifespan?
- No. A printed code remains useful only while its encoded address and the services behind it work. Archiving, deletion, expiry or domain loss can stop a redirect.
- Can a statically linked website still change?
- Yes, if you control the website at the same address. The QR image remains static: you change the website content, not the address stored in the image.
