Step by step
How to scan a QR code
Open a camera or scanner that supports the QR content, keep the full code in view and wait for a link or action. Scanning recognises data; it does not guarantee that the destination is safe or available. Review the displayed address before opening it.

Scan with iPhone or Android
On an iPhone, open Camera in Photo mode, frame the entire code and tap the detected action. You can also use the code scanner in Control Center. A camera scan does not require taking a photo.
On Android, the controls depend on the manufacturer. Pixel phones support the camera, the Quick Settings QR scanner and Google Lens. If the camera does nothing, check its scan settings before installing another app.
Read a code on your own screen
Open a saved image or screenshot with a feature that recognises QR codes in pictures, such as Google Lens. Avoid uploading confidential codes to unfamiliar scanner websites. Another option is to display the code on a second device and scan that screen.
Use the original file or a sharp screenshot with the complete margin. Enlarging an already blurred preview does not restore missing detail.
Check recognition separately from the destination
If no action appears, check focus, clear margins and contrast first. If an address appears but the page will not open, check the connection, exact URL, login requirements and destination availability. Reprinting cannot fix a broken link.
How it works
- 01
Clean the lens, provide even light and move slowly until the code is in focus.
- 02
Keep the surrounding blank border visible and avoid glare, folds or steep angles.
- 03
If recognition succeeds but the action fails, test the link or content with a suitable app.
What to keep in mind
A denser or smaller code may need a closer view. Try the original exported file to distinguish a content issue from poor printing. You do not need to install an unfamiliar scanner just because a poster asks you to.

- Why does a Wi-Fi code show text instead of connecting?
- The scanner may not support that payload or security setting. Use a compatible device function and verify the credentials directly on the router.
- Do I need internet access to scan?
- Reading the data can happen locally. A website or redirect then needs a connection. For Wi-Fi, contacts and events, device support also determines which action is offered.
